Yes! The very first Thanksgiving celebration in North America actually took place in Florida!!
“It was the first community act of religion and thanksgiving in the first permanent settlement in the land.The menu for the meal shared by the Spaniards and Timucuans lacked most of today’s typical Thanksgiving dishes, but it did feature a traditional post-Thanksgiving staple—leftovers. Unlike the Pilgrims, who served food freshly harvested from American soil, the Spanish were forced to make do with whatever provisions survived the long voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. According to Robyn Gioia, author of the children’s book “America’s REAL First Thanksgiving,” the European colonists likely ate hard biscuits and cocido; a rich garbanzo stew made with pork, garlic, saffron, cabbage and onion washed down with red wine. Hosting the first Thanksgiving celebration in what would become the United States is one of many “firsts” for the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in America.
This federal holiday, is one of the most family-oriented holidays on the calendar, and it is easily the most “relaxed” of them since it is generally spent entirely at home with family and friends.

Take the day and spend some time on Miami Beach soaking up some vitamin D in 80 degree weather that is typical here during the fall season. Afterwards, choose from hundreds of restaurants for that special Thanksgiving dinner. After wards, head over to the WinterNational Thanksgiving Day Parade in Miami or for those of us who are more into physical activities there is a Turkey Day run/trot going on as well.You can watch marching bands go by, clowns, decorated floats, motorcyclists, accompanied by Frosty the Snowman marching with polar bears. It’s a parade for the entire family to enjoy.
Instructions:
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Beat eggs slightly with rotary beater and add remaining ingredients. Pour into pastry-lined pie pan. Bake 15 minutes.
Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake 45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool.
